Pollen forecast Rijeka

Rijeka lies on the Kvarner coast, squeezed between the sea and the slopes of Učka, so it combines Mediterranean coastal pollen profile with influences from the forested hinterland. Unlike continental Croatia, the most important allergens here are Mediterranean — cypress, wall pellitory and olive pollen.

Main allergens and season

• Late winter and early spring (January–March): cypresses and other plants from the cypress family (Cupressaceae) often open the season, significantly earlier than in the interior.
• Spring (April–June): olive and other Mediterranean species; from the hinterland comes tree pollen such as hornbeam and oak.
• Spring to autumn (March–October): wall pellitory (Parietaria), a weed from the nettle family that grows on walls and stones and has an unusually long season.
