Pollen and allergies — Šibenik

Šibenik lies in central Dalmatia, at the mouth of the Krka river, surrounded by rocky karst landscape, olive groves and Mediterranean scrubland. The pollen profile is typically coastal — olive, wall pellitory and cypress instead of continental grasses and ragweed.

Main allergens and season

  • Late winter and early spring (January–March): cypresses and other cypress species (Cupressaceae) from gardens and tree lines.
  • Spring (April–June): olive as the main spring allergen of the coast.
  • Spring to autumn (March–October): wall pellitory (Parietaria) on stone walls and in crevices, with a long season.

Dry, sunny and windy weather aids pollen dispersal, so risk assessment is calculated together with weather forecast.
