Pollen and allergies — Virovitica

Virovitica lies in Podravina, between the Drava river and the slopes of Bilogora and Papuk mountains, in a landscape where lowland fields meet forested hills. This landscape brings both spring tree pollen from the forests and a strong summer grass season as well as autumn ragweed.

Main allergens and season

  • Spring (March–May): birch, hornbeam, and oak from the Papuk and Bilogora forests, alder and willow along the Drava.
  • Late spring and summer (May–July): grasses from meadows and field margins.
  • Late summer and autumn (August–September): ragweed along cultivated surfaces, roads, and abandoned parcels.
