Pollen and allergies — Kraljevo
Kraljevo stands where the Ibar joins the Zapadna Morava, in a basin open to the west and closed by mountains to the south — Goč, Stolovi, and, a little further off, Kopaonik. The city thus combines valley and mountain influences: in the basin itself the pollen season follows the rhythm of central Serbia, while in the hills above the city it runs several weeks behind.
Main allergens and season
- Late winter and early spring (February–March): alder along the Ibar, the Zapadna Morava, and their tributaries — it is particularly common in the Ibar valley.
- Spring (April–May): birch, which grows naturally in this area on the slopes of Goč and Stolovi as well as being planted in the city; from the surrounding forests come hornbeam, oak, and beech.
- Late spring and summer (May–July): grasses from the meadows and pastures of the valley and the mountain clearings, where the season lasts longer than in the lowlands.
- Late summer (August–September): ragweed at moderate concentrations along roads and on uncultivated plots in the valley; it is considerably weaker in the hills. Mugwort leads the way from July.
