Pollen and allergies — Kruševac
Kruševac lies in the Kruševac basin on the Rasina, close to where it joins the Zapadna Morava, between Jastrebac to the south and the Morava plain to the north. The basin is warm, fertile farming country, so the weed pollen burden is higher than in the surrounding hills, while the forests of Jastrebac contribute a noticeable share of tree pollen in spring.
Main allergens and season
- Late winter and early spring (February–March): alder along the Rasina and the Zapadna Morava and in the riverside woods of the basin.
- Spring (April–May): birch from the city's greenery and the slopes of Jastrebac, together with hornbeam, oak, and beech from the surrounding forests.
- Late spring and summer (May–July): grasses from the meadows, pastures, and field margins of the Zapadna Morava valley — the longest season of the year.
- Late summer (August–September): ragweed on stubble fields and uncultivated plots in the basin; concentrations are higher than in the hill towns of western Serbia but lower than in Vojvodina. Mugwort leads the way from July.
