Pollen and allergies — Osijek
Osijek is the largest city of eastern Croatia, situated along the Drava River, in the heart of the fertile Pannonian plain. Slavonia is precisely the region where ragweed reaches its highest concentrations in the country, so late summer is regularly the hardest part of the season for allergy sufferers in Osijek.
Main allergens and season
- Spring (March–May): birch, ash, and hornbeam from parks and tree-lined streets, alder and willow along the Drava — meadow ash is typical of flood forests along the Drava and Spačva.
- Late spring and summer (May–July): grasses from extensive Pannonian meadows and field edges.
- Late summer and autumn (August–September): ragweed — in Slavonia the dominant autumn allergen, with very high concentrations in arable fields, along roads, and on abandoned surfaces.
