Pollen and allergies — Sisak
Sisak lies at the confluence of the Kupa and Sava rivers, in the heart of Posavina, surrounded by wet lowland meadows and floodplain areas of Lonjsko Polje. Such a water-rich, lowland landscape favors grasses, and Posavina is also one of the hotspots of ragweed in Croatia.
Main allergens and season
- Spring (March–May): alder and willow along rivers, birch, ash and hornbeam from surrounding forests — ash is dominant in the floodplain forests of Lonjsko Polje.
- Late spring and summer (May–July): grasses from the extensive Posavina meadows.
- Late summer and autumn (August–September): ragweed, which in wet Posavina thrives along rivers, roads and cultivated areas — often the hardest part of the season.
