Pollen and allergies — Slavonski Brod
Slavonski Brod lies on the Sava, at the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Posavina region of Slavonia. The humid lowlands along the river and surrounding arable land give the city a prolonged grass pollen season and intense autumn ragweed typical of the Posavina and Slavonia regions.
Main allergens and season
- Spring (March–May): alder and willow along the Sava, birch, ash, and hornbeam from tree-lined avenues and forests — ash is especially common in the floodplain forests of the Posavina region.
- Late spring and summer (May–July): grasses from the Posavina meadows — the most taxing period of the year for most allergy sufferers.
- Late summer and autumn (August–September): ragweed along the river, roads, and cultivated surfaces, often with very high concentrations.
Dry and windy weather raises pollen concentration, while rain lowers it temporarily.
