Pollen forecast Bar

Bar is the center of Montenegrin olive growing: more than a hundred thousand olive trees grow around the town, including the famous Old Olive at Mirovica, one of the oldest trees in Europe. Combined with the Mediterranean climate, the shelter of Mount Rumija, and the closeness of the sea, this makes Bar a place where olive pollen is the main seasonal issue, well ahead of ragweed or grasses.

Main allergens and season

• Winter (January–February): cypresses in gardens and along streets, and alder along the watercourses inland — a mild but early season.
• Spring (April–June): olive is the key local allergen; flowering is most intense in late May, and in years of abundant bloom the concentrations in the groves around Mirovica, Šušanj, and Sutomore are considerably higher than the town-wide average.
• Summer (May–July): grasses from the rocky ground, terraces, and abandoned olive groves inland.
• Late summer (August–September): mugwort along roads and on neglected ground; ragweed is present but far weaker than in the continental part of the country.
