Opole lies in the Oder valley at the edge of the Silesian Lowland – one of the warmest parts of Poland. Riverside meadows and fertile farmland support a rich grass flora, and the Odra itself acts as a natural wind corridor, carrying pollen over considerable distances. The warmer climate accelerates the start of the growing season.
Main allergens and season
- February–March: hazel and alder in the Oder valley.
- April–May: birch, oak, and ash in woods and city parks.
- May–August: grasses on riverside meadows and fields – the grass season may last longer here than in other regions.
- August–September: mugwort and ragweed on roadsides, railways, and vacant plots.
